Wassup on Day 3 of The Festival in Malta?

The first two days of The Festival in Malta were quiet in comparison with Day 3, which is when the event really gets going. It’s going to be an extremely packed day, with ten separate events taking place, making this the busiest day on the entire schedule.

Marquee Events

All three of the multi-day tournaments at The Festival in Malta will be in play today. The €550 Main Event is the first to get underway and cards will be in the air at midday. It’s the first of five flights for the Main Event.

The H.O.R.S.E.S Mixed Games Main Event has its final day, with 22 players returning at 3pm. The tournament will play out to a finish today, which could be a late one.

The Hendon Mob Championship has the last of its three starting days on Tuesday, starting at 4pm. Will anyone post a bigger stack than current chip leader Ivonne Montealegre, who bagged up 276,000 on Day 1b. The full chip counts for the survivors from Day 1b can be viewed in a post on yesterday's live blog coverage.

Side Events

Today’s side event offering is an extremely interesting one, including a rare Heads Up No Limit Texas Hold’em tournament, with a €250 buy-in. It has a cap of 32 players. There was no heads up tournament in Rozvadov this year. The last heads up event on The Festival Series was last year in Bratislava, where Michael Havavka won the trophy.

The €250 PLO Masters is usually a popular event at The Festival and it starts at 1pm.

Roulette Tournament

One of the highlights of the day will be the Roulette tournament, which begins at 3pm and will take place on the stage of the main tournament room upstairs.

Roulette is usually is a solitary game played alone against the dealer. There might be other players at the table with you, but you’re not playing against them.

However tournament roulette is different, its a game of survival and the goal is to be in the top two of your heat to progress to the next round. Here’s a brief outline of how it works:

  • Each round consists of a 15 spins
  • Players haver 250 points to use
  • The maximum bet is 100 points per round, the minimum is 1
  • Players must to place a bet each round
  • When a player loses all their chips, they are eliminated
  • When there are only two players left in the round, it is over, regardless of how many spins remain. Each heat will have 6-7 players

If you’re not familiar with the game, there is a longer and more detailed article about roulette tournaments you can read, which has all the info.

Satellites

Today there are two satellites, one for the Main Event at 7pm, which costs €70n to enter and has 3 x €550 seats guaranteed. Monday’s version of this had 52 entries and generated 5 seats. Today’s will likely be busier, as more and more poker players descend upon Malta.

The second satellite of the day is a turbo one at 9pm for the PLO €1,100 High Roller. This satellite costs €150 to enter and has 2 x Pot Limit Omaha High Roller seats guaranteed.

There will also be further heats of the cash game challenge this evening and another session of Franke’s Flip Flops.
