We sat down with the Managing Director of the Danish Market at NordicBet Kresten Hougaard to learn more about him and about the budding partnership between NordicBet and The Festival Series.

Kresten Stands Behind The Festival Series

Kresten is one of the brightest minds in the industry and has applied that over the years in many capacities. He has a vast understanding of what poker players need as he was a professional player in the poker boom days. Kresten also has a great insight into The Festival Series as he was there when it all began as The Head of Poker at Acroud, the parent company to both PokerListings and The Festival Series.

Acroud was quickly on board with Kresten’s support when The Festival Series Founder Martin “Franke” von Zweigbergk dreamed up the idea and began to get the wheels in motion. Well-known tournament organizer and current Head of Poker at Acroud Mauritz Altikardes was brought on board and by any measure, the inaugural The Festival Series Bratislava was a huge success with the Main Event crushing its €300,000 guarantee and players enjoying themselves with plenty of poker and casino side events and planned activities away from the tables.

“It was great fun,” Kresten shared about his experience in Bratislava. “I think obviously being the first festival, it was very successful both in terms of the volume of players and the variety of games. I like mixed games and enjoy playing them over anything else. So, I really liked the schedule and I played quite a few different events, including some of the casino events including the Blackjack Tournament. It was a very good experience overall with a really nice atmosphere and everything. And obviously, it was a tough time during COVID. But a lot of players still turned up and they made the guarantee of €300,000.

Natural Partnership Between NordicBet and The Festival Series

NordicBet’s partnership with The Festival Series is a match made in heaven in no small thanks to Kresten’s background, along with him being good friends with ‘the house’ as shared.

“I'm obviously good friends with the house over at Acroud, especially with Franke and Mauritz, the minds behind The Festival” Kresten said. “Obviously, we want to support that as an operator as well. Like, I don't see a reason why we wouldn't. I think it's the next big low-stakes festival in Europe, and potentially even outside Europe as well. So, why shouldn't we have our players qualify for that as well? Like, I don't see any reason why we wouldn't do that. And obviously, being a friend of the house makes it easier to make a deal with your friends in your previous company. So, it was quite natural for us to make this partnership happen.”
