We have once again reached the bagging and tagging stage of an eventful day in the Main Event, wherein we saw registration close after Level 12 with a total of 552 entries, the money reached at 71 places with the demise of Peter Nordin on the bubble, and the field further whittled down to just 30 players.

When they return to the Hilton Tallinn Park tomorrow at noon, under the aegis of Olympic Casino, Agris Noviks will be the man to beat on 1,595,000 in chips. There’s a world of difference between the €1,730 on offer for 30th place and the €56,100 on offer for first place though, so it might be worth taking it a little easy at the player party that is allegedly taking place right now. Or not – one could argue that’s a win either way.

Elsewhere in the building, the side events rage on. Following the conclusion of the Blackjack and Roulette events last night (respectively won by Marek Kotelnikov for €2,372 and Johan Palokangas for €1,548 after a six-way deal), tonight is the turn of the Matching Visions Slots Championship – good luck to all the players who are right now coughing up their €250 buy-ins to that. Also underway are the €1,050 NLH High Roller with 20 entries so far, as well as the €250 Pokerlistings Deepstack (249 entries and counting) and the €330 Open Face Chinese (37 entries). The livestream continues into the night as well, currently featuring some sort of Cash Game Challenge affair involving Ylva Thorsrud at the table and George Sandford on the comms.

Tomorrow’s schedule is equally packed, what with the Gambling Cabin Sportsbook tournaments kicking off at 1pm, the €600 Team Poker Event at 2pm, and the €330 Heads Up at 4pm, as well as a PLO Turbo at 8pm and all sorts of other shenanigans. Shortyl before the end of Day 2, Agris Noviks managed to win a pivotal flip against Maksim Petrov.

It was fodled to Petrov in the small blind and he moved all-in for 400,000 chips with A K . Noviks thought for some time and decided to call with 5 5 . The board didn’t help Petrov as it came down Q 6 6 J 9 .

With this flip won, Noviks is up to over 1.4m now and it looks like he’s the chip leader right now. We will have accurate counts when the level is over.

Over at table 14 Sascha Manns is massaging a huge stack and is up over 1m now. We just saw him take out Tihomir Yanev with some luck in a preflop all-in.

Manns raised to 35k from middle position and behind him Mikael Zackariasen called. Now Yanev moved all-in for for roughly 200k. Manns thought for a while and eventualla reshoved. He showed J 10 but was dominated against Yanev’s A 9 . The board however gave Manns two pair: J 5 6 2 10 .

Over at table 15 Alberigo Stellanello just took out Jarkko Kuusisto with a runner-runner flush.

We were not at the table for the action, but it was an all-in preflop and Kuusisto had K-K in 600k pot. Stellanello was behind with A Q . But the board gave him three more hearts for a flush to take the massive pot and the Fin packing.

Thanks to my buddy and Finnish reporting legend Juhani for helping me piece together this three-way monster that I dropped in for the very end of. Apparently Lasse Laukkarinen shoved, Tihomir Yanev 3-bet, Pal Oygarden reshoved, and Yanev called again.

We have two women left in tourney – Anne Standal and WPT Global qualifier Oleksandra Shenderei. The latter just managed to double up in a big pot against German Stefan Bittger.

We’re not sure what happened preflop, but there were 85k in the middle on a K 6 5 flop. After a bet Shenderei moved all-in for roughly 190k with K 5 . Her opponent Stefan Bittger called with K J . Shenderei had two pair, but Bittger lots of outs. Turn and river fell Q , K , giving Shenderei a boat. “Yes, I’m still alive!” she exclaimed relieved and happily. She even has slightly more than an average stack now!

The 6 on the turn was checked by both players and as the A peeled off on the river, Viggander bet 50k. Napel quickly called to which Viggander exclaimed: “It’s mine”. He turned over 3 3 for a flopped set that turned into a boat. Napel mucked his hand and is down to less than 20 big blinds.

Jari Huri came back from the break with roughly one big blind. That’s not a lot and limits the options a player has.

Hurri managed to double up once and was not playing with 25k. But those chips just vanished against Peder Behr.

After Eirik Kristiansen opened from middle position, Peder Behr moved all-in over the raise for 167k. In the small blind Jari, Hurri called and Kristiansen folded his hand.

Huri showed 2-2 and was marginally ahead against Behrs A-Q. Hurri stayed ahead on the 9-5-4 flop and with a 6 on the turn. But a Queen on the river sealed his fate and he had to take his leave in 39th position.

We’re not sure what happened until the river as we arrived with 225k in the middle already and the board reading J 10 A –9 –Q .

Totti Matias Arosuo (sitting in middle position) checked to Mikael Zackariasen in the cut-off. Zackariasen moved 100k chips in front of him and after some time Arosuo folded his hand. Zackariasen turned over 2 2 for a way too small pair for this board. His bluff was enough to take down this rather larger pot.

A quick and clinical double up for Madis Ormisson, whose AQ dodged any kind of nastiness against Alex Lianes’ AT on a 6J92Q board. Ormisson doubled to a still rather desperate 75k, while Lianes was left with a less desperate but also not-great 150k.

“Don’t feel bad,” advised possibly inebriated tablemate Vambo Laud, living up to his name in a variety of ways.

“I feel good,” Lianes assured him, somewhat unconvincingly.

“I think that learning to accept loss is one of the most important things,” Laud continued. “I’m quite good at it.”

This was a very quick bubble! Well, it was no proper bubble at all, at least no hand-for-hand play.

Right after Poland’s Unibet qualifier, Arkadiusz Liszewski busted in 73rd position an all-in and call happened on table 9.

The board didn’t help the Swede as it fell A 10 4 2 J .

Totti Lind’s stack is on a roller coaster ride the entire day. After being among the chip leaders, he just a huge hand against Vasilijs Aleksejenko without even going to the showdown.

We arrived at the table on the flop with 50k in the middle and the board reading K 10 2 . Lind, who was sitting in middle position bet 21k and Aleksejenko raised to 50k in the cut-off.

Lind quickly grabbed his yellow 25k chips and re-raised to 132k. After only a few seconds his opponent moved all-in for 234k in total. Totti Lind had him barely covered and seemed flabbergasted by the move.

“So you have tens, that’s what you’re saying”, he asked. Then he jokingly asked: “Can I call a friend?”. But no lifelines were given and eventually, Lind folded despite fantastic odds.

Aleksejenko showed one card, the K and raked in this huge pot.

While the shorter stacks are currently trying everything to stall the game a little bit to make it into the money, the bigger stacks are beginning to muscle up and try to take advantage of the scared bubble play of the other players.

One of the players with bigger stacks is Lars Eklund. We just witnessed him play a big pot against Hanno Kerem.

With 100k in the middle already we arrived at the flop reading 6 2 3 . Eklund (in early position) checked and Kerem (in the cut-off) made it 35k to go. Eklund quickly called. The 5 was checked by both players. The river fell K and now Eklund grabbed a couple of chips and bet 130k.

Hanno Kerem took several minutes to decide and eventually folded. He asked “Show me your bluff!” and Eklund obliged. But he could not muster any bluff, only A 10 for the nuts.

Oskar Engvall has pledged to donate 50% of his potential winnings to the Swedish Breast Cancer Foundation. You can read up a bit on the tragic background to this pledge here. He was playing rather quiet today and was at the bottom of the counts during the last levels. Now he just managed to win some chips back.

Johan Palokangas opened from the cut-off with a min-raise to 12k and behind him, Oskar Engvall called on the button. Henri Wagner tagged along in the blinds the three saw a flop: K 10 5 . After a check, Palokangas bet another 12k and now Engvall moved all-in for 34k. Wagner folded and Palokangas quickly called.

Engvall turned over K Q for top pair which was in front of Palokangas second pair with A 10 . Turn and river fell 2 , Q , not changing the outcome of the hand.

Oskar Engvall more than doubled up and has some breathing room now.

The next hand, Redl jammed from the hijack his remaining chips. Lindstrom came over the top for 136,000 from the small blind. Krystian Nalepka tanked for a couple of minutes before a player called the clock. Nalepka folded as soon as the floor found its way to the table.

Krystian Nalepka won a package at Unibet two weeks ago for the Main Event here at the Festival in Tallinn. As one of the several Polish people here, he seems to enjoy his time very much and keeps being relaxed and patient at a very strong table, with top stacks from Agris Noviks and Mauritz Altikardes on his left.

Heikki Rahikka opened up the action by raising to 10,000 UTG+1, after which his neighbor Roland Kivi 3-bet to 26,000. Everyone got out of the way, except the big blind. After going into the tank for a while, Agris Noviks decided to throw in a 4-bet to 65,000.

The original raiser went out of the way, before Roland announced to be All-in for about 200,000, which Agris Noviks instantly called, holding A A . Potentially the biggest pot so far and the unfortunate Roland showed his K K .

The board gave no help to Roland, just to make things crystal clear, an Ace in the window made him stand up and leave. The complete board of 7 A 3 J Q put Agris Noviks in the top chip counts for now. He already mentioned to us before the start of the day that things went went rather smoothly for him so far. It looks like he continues to ride on that smooth wave.

Perhaps Hazan should have been more specific. He didn’t get a call as instead Dmitri Dudakov three-bet the button to 15,000. The rest of the table folded and Hazan laughed when he saw his opponent’s cards.

Totti Lind didn’t have that much of a stack for this day, but he’s hovering around and now he just managed to win a big(ish) all-in against Keimo Suominen.

We arrived at the table with 35k in the middle and the board reading Q 9 2 –4 on the turn. Suominen just had shoved all-in for 20k more and Totti Lind thought for a while. Eventually, he decided: “I know, I’m behind, but I think I still have to call.” He called and tabled J 9 . He was behind as Suominen was way in front with K Q and top pair.

But the river brought the 9 – Trips for Totti and a rather brutal exit for Suominen.

A few weeks ago, Kaido Mikk was riding high after winning the 2022 Coolbet Open Main Event. Unfortunately for the Estonian, there will be no repeat performance in The Festival Series Tallinn Main Event.

Mikk jammed for 30,000 and was called by Jere Keitaanranta. Erki Andressoo three-bet jammed and Keitaanranta called off for more than 100,000 in chips.

A king was out of the window on the J 3 K flop to put Keitannranta in the lead in the hand. There is also another big stack on Table 10 with Lars Eklund up to about 250,000 in chips. We learned that Eklund put the nail in the coffin on the stack of the chip leader at the break Grigorijus Vasilavicius to help catapult his stack as well.

Leigri was down to 25k and moved all-in from middle position with K-J. Shenderei called with A-K and has Leigri dominated. The board didn’t change much as it fell 2-9-5-4-8.

Grigorijus Vasilavicius had a mountain of chips. It was surprising to see his seat open. Madis Ormisson, who is at the table, shared with us that Vasilavicius was out the door. Ormisson has a great sense of humor, so at first we thought he was trolling, but the table confirmed and there were big stacks now with other players at the table.

Erki Andressoo wound up getting most of Vasilavicius’ chips with a full house vs. an overpair and was the chip leader after this hand.

I arrived tableside just in time to see the silent demise of Daragh Davey, all in preflop with 8 8 against Jaru Hurri’s A K . The board ran out 9 7 J A 4 with not a murmur from either player; Davey gave a slight nod as the ace fell on the turn and was standing to leave before the last card had even touched the felt. Hurri is up to around 200k.

Meanwhile at the next table, hilarity and cursing all round as JJ Hazan and Tormod Ludvigsen chopped a pot. The chips had apparently gone in preflop, Hazan shoving with K3 on the button against Ludvigsen’s raise with KQ – only for the board to raise Hazan’s hopes and then dash them again, running out 3K32K to give them both kings full at the end. Still, a chop’s not bad under the circumstances, and Hazan continues with around 75k while Ludvigsen remains on 120k or so.

Tapio Aaltonen began the day with one of the biggest stacks in the room with about 187,000 in chips. Unfortunately for our Finnish friend, he is now on the rail and will take a break from poker until the two-day PokerListings €250 Deepstack kicks off at 5 p.m.

Aaltonen shared that he lost a chunk of his stack before the break with jacks against queens with both two eights and two sevens on the board.

Very soon after the break, he four-bet jammed for 25,500 with king-queen suited and was called by the player who three-bet with nines. Aaltonen had high hopes when he saw a queen out of the window. But hopes were dashed when there was also a nine of the flop to give his opponent a set. Aaltonen was drawing dead when a six hit the turn and left the tournament area after a blank river.

We’re not actually sure whether registration closes at the start of Level 13 or whether your opportunity to buy into this Main Event expired with the Level 12 clock (perhaps some unlucky yet enthusiastic gambler in the field could clarify this for us?), but either way, within 20 minutes this tournament will officially be a freezeout.

The total entries currently stand at 552, of whom 164 still have chips. We’ll be back shortly with official numbers, as well as the all-important prize pool info.

UPDATE: registration is indeed open until the start of Level 13; furthermore, players who are unhappy with their short stack are permitted to forfeit it and cough up another €550 for a brand new 30k starting stack – worth exactly 10BBs come the start of the next level. Good luck, everyone.

Aivaras Smaidziunas has been crushing the side events with at least three final table appearances but never got much going despite trying during a few opening flights in the Main Event.

He was on his second bullet today when his ace-king didn’t hold against jack-nine. We asked our Lithuanian friend whether he would get back into the action.

“No third bullet for me today,” said Smaidziunas. “Instead, I will play the High Roller.”

Perhaps that is the wise decision for the Lithuanian who has experienced only bad luck in the Main Event but tons of love on the side events. Best of luck in the two-day €1,050 High Roller, which kicks off at 6 p.m.

After a full orbit with a lack of post-flop action or all-ins at the rather stacked table number 8, we saw a showdown brewing up. The action was opened by Heikki Rahikka from early position in which Mauritz calling from the cutoff and all other players went out of the way.

The flop brought up 10 A 5 , with around 12,000 in the middle and no action. The turn brought the J , and Heikki decided to check, after which Mauritz made it 7,000 to go. Heikki made the call. With not having much behind for Heikki, the call was potentially strong, but Mauritz decided to shove his big stack fearless into the middle on the 7 river. Heikki quickly called for his last 19,000 chips and showed the goods with 10 10 , against Mauritz paired Ace with A 6 . Mauritz Altikardes, our ‘Pokerlistings’ ambassador from Sweden, got lucky on Day 1d and collected a nice stack to start with today on day 2. But until now he is off to a slow start.

Lithuania’s Grigorijus Vasilavicius is a fun player that this reporting has played with often at Olympic Casino in Vilnius and occasionally in Kaunas as well.

Vasilavicius is off to an amazing starting having parlayed his opening stack of around 150,000 to 500,000. It is safe to say regardless of the plethora of players still in the field that he is the current chip leader. The Lithuanian shared he has been hit by the deck and getting paid off with getting cowboys twice and rockets once on his way to an amazing tower of chips.

Sekmes (good luck in Lithuanian) to Vasilavicius to parlay this further into a good stack to end the day as well.

Directly in front of us at table 13, we witnessed a quick all-in, call and elimination. Rando Liiber’s luck struck on the river when he was all-in against Javier Moya and he took out the Spaniard. After an open-raise Moya moved all-in from the blinds for 34k with A 5 and Liiber called the all-in with K Q .

The board ran out 4 9 J 2 Q and with the Queen on the river Liiber raked in the pot as Moya was sent packing.

The table got animated, especially JJ Hazan who appeared to be relieved to find a fold in between Nikitins jamming and Gercev coming in over the top.

Although the tens were dead with two players holding a pair of the, the 7 Q 3 flop gave Nikitins some hope for a triple up as he was the only player with a flush draw. Neither the K turn nor the 5 river helped Nikitins and he hit the rail while Huhtala doubled the Gercev.

Welcome to Day 2 of The Festival Series Tallinn €550 Main Event at Olympic Park Casino and the Hilton Tallinn Park.

The four opening flights attracted a banner field of 502 entries with 191 players bagging chips into Day 2. These figures will increase with late registration permitted for the first two levels with two re-entries permitted during this time.

Day 2 will kick off at noon EEST and end around 8:30 p.m. after 10 blind levels are in the books. The final prize pool and payouts will be announced sometime between the first and second breaks of the day.

Opening Flight Figures & Chip Leaders

Gregory Bregy bagged the overall chip lead on Day 1c with a massive stack of 209,100. Not too far behind are Day 1b chip leader Lasse Laukkarinen (196,200) and Day 1a chip leader Stefan Bittger (188,700).

Meanwhile, The Festival Series’ jefe Mauritz Altikardes also found a big stack of 137,300 via a quicker path during the turbo-charged Day 1d last night.
