If you are coming to The Festival Bratislava and plan to play tournaments, there is one thing you really should not miss: Franke’s Flip Flops. It’s simple. It’s fast. And it can save you a lot of money during the week. And above all, they are absolute fun to play!
Franke’s Flip Flops runs every day from Monday to Friday, from 20:00 until 22:00. You don’t need to register at the tournament desk. You don’t need to sign up in advance. Just walk to the Flip Flops table, sit down, and play.
Franke's Flip Flops (One-Hand Satellites)
How it Works
Franke's Flip Flops is basically a one-hand satellite game. That means there is no long structure, no waiting, no levels. You sit down, you play one hand, and that's it. The buy-in is €25. It is rake-free. That means all €25 goes into the prize pool. Nothing is taken out.
At least five players are needed to start a flip. If five players join, that means €125 in the middle. The winner takes all €125 in tournament credit. The other players are out.
If six players join, it’s €150. If seven join, €175. Whatever the total is, that is exactly what the winner gets in tournament credit.

Why it’s Such Good Value
The biggest reason is simple: there is no rake. In most satellite tournaments, part of your buy-in goes to fees. Here, every euro goes back to the players. Besides this very valuable aspect, another important thing is that it's very fast. You don't need to spend hours trying to win a seat. One hand decides your faith. You can play several flips in one evening.
Don't tell this to anyone, but let me give you some free advice here: On some days, there are only a few flips runnng. aybe two, three, or four. Imagine in all these flips, there have been different winners. It's very profitable for you in a way, to jump over these people with the amount of winning flips in the end, and potentially qualify for the final.
The Daily Ranking
Each day, from Monday to Friday, the player who wins the most flips that day qualifies for the Saturday final. You don’t have to win every flip. You just need to win more than everyone else that day.
And yes, you can qualify more than once. If you win the daily ranking on Monday and again on Tuesday, you qualify twice. If you also win on Wednesday, you qualify three times. That means you will have three spots in the final. Three chances to win.
That is why it makes sense to start early in the week. The earlier you start, the more chances you have to qualify and the more time you have to use your tournament credit.
The Saturday Final
The final takes place on Saturday at 10:30 in the morning during The Festival Bratislava. There will be five daily winners, one from each day. If someone qualified multiple times, they will have multiple spots in the final.
The format is simple but a bit different. It is a reverse shootout flip.
Five players start. Everyone flips. The person who wins the hand is out. Then four players remain. They flip again. The winner is out again. This continues until only one player is left. The last remaining player wins the Final, and with that, also the full package worth €1,600 for the next upcoming The Festival stop, which is in this case, The Festival Rozvadov from June 9-15.
If you already left Bratislava, that is not a problem. Someone can randomly represent you. But of course, it’s better to be there yourself to really sweat it.
What Can You Win?
- Every flip you win during the week gives you tournament credit.
- The winner of the Saturday final wins a €1,600 package for the next Festival stop, which will be The Festival Rozvadov.
So for €25 per flip, you not only build tournament credit, but you also have a chance to win a big package.
How To Join
It’s very easy. Bring cash to the Flip Flops table and they will change it into chips. Or use your casino chips if you already have them. No need to go to registration. No need to sign anything in advance.
Just show up between 20:00 and 22:00 and play. If no more players come, it might close a bit earlier, but usually it runs until 22:00.
Why Did We Come Up With This?
The Festival is an event that is just a tiny bit different than you can usually expect from a live poker event. You will find a lot of things that are just being done a bit differently, or you find tournaments that you will hardly find anywhere else. Franke's Flip Flips, named like this because Martin 'Franke' von Zweigbergk is widely known for wearing flip-flops day in day out, is a great game that allows you to build tournament credit during The Festival.
