Meet David Lappin: Ambassador of Unibet Poker

David Lappin, originally from Ireland and now residing in Malta, is an ambassador for Unibet Poker. Not only does he travel all around the world for poker, and often plays on the online client of Unibet, he is also involved in another way into the poker world. Besides being a content creator, he is also the co-host of the Chip Race podcast, a well-known podcast where various notable names give their opinions about the actual state of poker as a whole.

Melvin: Hi David! First of all, congratulations on the package win on Unibet last Sunday! A good streak for you online, right? With some good scores during the Anniversary events on Unibet. Do you often qualify online? And what do you think about the online qualifier trees on Unibet?

David Lappin: ‘’I’ve been lucky enough to enjoy a little uptick online of late. 2024 has begun brightly which is nice because September through to New Year was the opposite. I managed to win a Festival Series package during my Sunday grind last week. I play a lot of tables so, to be honest, I don’t remember exactly how it went down until late on. Short-handed, I think I played well and heads-up, I managed to grind my opponent down to a short stack before he rallied back to even. Then, a disgusting hand unfolded and he flopped a set against my bottom two pairs. All the money went in and before I could curse my luck, the run-out back-doored me a flush. I do like to play the live event satellites on Unibet Poker because they are great value and it’s great to take down a package for the Festival Series which I can use in either Rozvadov, Malta or Bratislava.’’

Melvin: You were at our event in Malta last year, of course, numerous events are being held in Malta throughout the year. Are you going to come to Rozvadov with your package? Or you are going to select another event? What is your opinion about The Festival Series compared to other events?

David Lappin: ‘’I like how the Festival Series emphasizes fun. There are some tournament Series that I play each year in which the buy-ins are big and I feel like I have to be all business. The Festival stops have a different vibe - more like a poker vacation. I like to dabble with some of the mixed game tournaments and there are plenty of them to play too. I think most likely I will go to Bratislava unless I have a commentary conflict, in which case I will use it for Malta.’’

Melvin: You have been around and about in the poker industry for numerous years now. You play events all over the world and do quality things in poker media such as The Chip Race. (First The Hendon Mob cash in Holland, Nice one!). What do you think the poker world is missing out on still, especially in regards to live poker?

David Lappin: ‘’Live poker is booming, which is a great thing, but it also takes a bit of the pressure off of live operators in terms of how fair they need to be. I’ve seen rake creeping up and structures worsening and that is a bad trend. That is why I particularly like to support tournaments and festivals, like The Festival Series and the Unibet DSO. I feel like these operators give value for money, both on the felt and because they choose great locations.’’

Melvin: Unibet is raising the GTD prize pool of the weekly final as of this Sunday to 2x PACKAGES GTD, instead of one. Why someone needs to go and try out Unibet to play online poker? What makes them stand out and comfortable to play at?

David Lappin: ‘’Unibet Poker has a few unique selling points which I think are more tailored to the recreational player. Firstly, we have changeable aliases so recreational players can feel safe and that they are not being preyed upon by professionals. Secondly, our nightly schedule of bigger games starts at 5 pm and ends around midnight. This suits the players who need to get up for work the next day. Thirdly, we have partnered with terrific live operators and offer incremental pathways and lots of flexibility for those trying to satellite into a live event. I’m really pleased to see that we are now guaranteeing two Festival packages on Sunday and I can imagine that we start hitting three or more very soon.’’

Would you like to know more about online satellites for our next event in Rozvadov? Make sure to keep an eye on our social media channels and the qualifier page on our website, to not miss out on any of the action!
